Network Genuinely To Make Great Connections

Sitting on the train, on my way to speak at a lunch, I reflected on the message I was going to share. My main message is there can be no right or wrong in our journey of growing a business and indeed a life.

I love the opportunity to revisit my first lunch networking events. I once went to a women’s franchising lunch feeling so nervous and self-conscious. There was a lovely, kind looking lady standing alone and I shared my nerves with her. I had been home raising kids and had hired a girl to help me, so I could grow my business, and this was my first brave step in two years.

This lady was Kerry Miles from Griffith University Excellence in Franchising and became one of my very favourite women in business. I realised as I got to know Kerry better, how critical it was that I was authentic when I met her that day.

I recommend that if you are nervous about networking, to step out and just start. You will be amazed how being genuine can open up opportunities for you that you would never achieve online.

For International Women’s Day on March 8, I was invited to Parliament House to network with 100 other business women. I felt the same nerves I felt at that first event I attended. Don’t wait until your nerves settle to get out and about. When you meet me, I want you to feel comfortable in my presence.  My role is to encourage people to work out what they desire and how I can help them best, I hope I can help someone like Kerry helped me.
